Amy's January Update
|Momentum Day to Castle Fun Park|
This year I am involved in a few different programs so I just wanted to give you a quick update.
I am at Yorkson Creek Middle School two days a week, running field/gym games for students. We also run a mobile drop-in center at Yorkson called “Street Life”. The purpose is to provide a safe and fun place for youth to hang out and connect with positive adults and their peers.
On Wednesday’s I help at our youth drop-in center where we provide a safe space for youth to hang out. We offer a community dinner for the students to enjoy together and run a program called “Spiritual Life” that students are welcome to stay for to talk about deeper topics in a safe environment.
I am also thankful to have the opportunity to invest in a peer mentorship program called “Momentum”. This is the program that I started volunteering with in 2006 and I have had the priviledge to watch the program grow and develop young leaders in the community. This program literally saved my life as a young person and I am grateful to all of the people who have invested in it over the years. It is awesome to be able to invest back into this program and do the same for other people.
We are still looking for individuals or small groups that are willing to financially provide or bring in meals for our weekly community dinner. We are also looking for people who would be willing to sponsor momentum students. The program costs approximately $420 per year, per student. To have a youth go through the Momentum program breaks down to $35 per month. If either of these things are something that interests you or a group you know, please contact our administrator, Megan, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 604-557-6507 for more information.
If you pray, please pray for:
-Our partnerships with the schools and community organizations to continue to grow.
-For the mobile drop-in center at Yorkson Creek middle school to help meet the needs of the youth in the community.
- For the growing community of Langley and for students that are new to the area.
- Many students I work with are struggling with loneliness. Please pray for them to find comfort, peace and community throughout the remaining school year.
- As my hours have increased, please pray that I am using my time in the most effective way and that I can serve the students that need it most. Also, pray that I can continue to grow and foster relationships with youth in the community, and that our ministry will continue to be financially stable.
Please consider a commitment to praying for each of these programs I am involved in and the students that are being impacted by them.
